Exciting times upfront of Configuration Manager & Microsoft Intune! After announcement of renaming Windows Intune to Microsoft Intune and expected new functionalities in Q4 Microsoft released this week an imported hotfix for Configuration Manager 2012 R2. In short this hotfix allows you to remote wipe or retire your mobile devices almost instanlty with out any delay…how cool is that!

This hotfix adds the client notification component to Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager. This component provides fast channel communications that a Configuration Manager administrator can use to notify clients to start time-sensitive tasks as soon as possible.

Additionally, this hotfix greatly reduces the time that’s required to execute a successful retire or wipe of a Mobile Device Management (MDM) device. Without this hotfix, retire and wipe operations could require 24 hours to run successfully. After you apply this hotfix, retire and wipe operations are pushed to the following MDM device types:

  • iOS
  • Android
  • Windows 8.1

These operations now run on the device in a matter of seconds, assuming the device is reachable by Windows Intune. The device must have an active data connection for Intune to communicate with it.

The hotfix can be downloaded here and requires you’ve already installed Cummulative Update 3 (CU3) for Configuration Manager 2012 R2.
